Mechanical Designer (Plant Engineering) at FLSmidth

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Establish design objectives for specific projects and recommend practicability and suitability of design, material and other criteria.
• Prepare preliminary design studies.
• Prepare mechanical designs; home office engineering design estimates; 2/3D plant equipment layouts; 3D models and general arrangement (GA) drawing production
• Prepare moderately difficult designs for segments of assigned projects.
• Prepare layout studies, specifications, equipment drawings and detail and construction drawings in compliance with process and client requirements.
• Evaluate effects of changes and modifications on form, function and positional relationships of the layout of minerals processing equipment.
• Perform duties within a client's operating facility or in the field in support of a construction project if required.
• Duties may include extended, but temporary out of town assignments.
• Ability to move from design concept to finished design, including layouts and tolerance valuations and detail drawings with minimal instruction.
• Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety.
• Accept accountability for both individual and team performance.
• Perform lead designer role, manage the work of other designers/drafters

Education & Experience Required

Vocational technical training in basic drafting technology and nine to 6 to 8 years drafting experience; or an Associate's Degree (A.A.) in Engineering Technology or equivalent from two-year college or technical school plus 4 to 6 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires a high level of technical ability in the appropriate engineering discipline and strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Requires a thorough working knowledge of basic AutoCad applications (and/or Microstation) and understanding of the capabilities/limitations of the equipment relating to the efficient production of engineering documents.

• Experience in mineral processing/concentrators

• Must have working knowledge with CADWorx, SmartPlant 3D, CAESAR II, CAEPIPE, ISOGEN. 3D Design experience is a must.

• Experience in layout of industrial plant processing equipment, minerals processing

• Requires a high level of technical ability in the Mechanical engineering discipline.

• Requires continuing education concerning updates of drafting software and new software applications.
