Party Chief

Here’s an opportunity to move to the desert in the friendliest town in BC! We are in immediate need of a Survey Technician/Party Chief who can join the new legal survey team in our growing Kamloops office. This office is bidding and winning many projects including land development, utility right of ways, topographic surveys, construction layout and surveys on First Nations lands.

Required Skills

• Take instructions from the Land Surveyor for performance of field and office tasks
• As party chief, be in charge of a field crew for a wide array of surveys including land development (subdivisions), topographic, right of ways, construction layout and Canada Lands (First Nations) surveys
• Perform on-site liaison between Land Surveyor and client as required from time to time
• Perform computations of survey data including the following:
• Data collector/GPS receiver downloads and processing
• Survey adjustments including least-squares adjustments and traverse balancing
• Preliminary resolution of boundaries in support of BC Land Surveyor review
• Computations of new lots and other parcels in preparation for plan production and posting
• Preparation of linework for site plan/topographic surveys
• Manage flow of information between field and office, and prepare clear, concise and accurate field notes, records and calculations
• Ensure implementation of quality assurance, safety and policy compliance

Required Experience

• 2-year technical diploma in Geomatics with up to 5 years previous experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Land Surveyor in training would be an asset
• Effective communications skills
• Proficiency in computer applications (MSCAD and GPS processing software at minimum)
• Valid driver’s license
