Public Policy and Economics Analyst

MPA has created a new role which will be critical to the Public Affairs and Economics work of the Association.
MPA is the leading trade association representing the minerals products sector, including the aggregates, asphalt, cement and concrete industries. The industry represents the largest material flow in the UK and is the largest element of the construction supply chain. The Mineral Products industry has an annual turnover of £9 billion and operates at 2000 sites throughout the UK, contributing to both local and national economies. There is a broad spectrum of public policy issues which matter to the MPA and member companies, including land use planning; a wide range of regulation; climate change; carbon, energy and resource taxation; biodiversity and nature conservation; infrastructure and public investment; transport; housing and construction. MPA needs to understand policy development in the UK and Europe and to have effective working relationships with Government Departments, EU Officials, MPs, MEPs , other industry bodies, NGOs and other stakeholders.
MPA produces analyses of industry markets on a monthly and quarterly basis and regular economic and market reviews. The successful candidate will work on developing the analysis and presentation of this work and looking at the potential to produce new and improved outputs. He/she will develop detailed knowledge of key markets, notably construction, and the factors which impact on construction activity.
This is an opportunity for someone to combine a variety of public policy work with general and more specific economic analyses.The successful applicant will report to the Director of Economics and Public Affairs and work closely with a range of colleagues including the MPA Communications team.
The candidate will be able to demonstrate an interest and ability in Public Policy and Economics. He/she should have a good and relevant degree and significant experience of public policy and economic affairs with Westminster and Brussels experience. Good written and oral communication skills are essential as well as the ability to be self-motivated and to work quickly and effectively with colleagues on a variety of issues.
