Associate Professor in Economics

Applications are invited for a full time, tenured faculty in Economics at the Albany campus of the university. Candidates with research and teaching interest in the mainstream areas of economics, micro-economics, macro-economics or econometrics will be considered.
This position carries leadership responsibilities in Economics for the School and the successful candidate will also be considered for the role of Associate Head of School for the Albany campus. This is one of two academic managers reporting to the Head of School, usually on a three year term.
The successful candidate should have an outstanding continuing research record and a strong desire to interact closely with a group of diverse international faculty. Research supervision of honours, masters and doctoral students is also expected.
For this appointment, you will be expected to teach economics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to be responsible for the delivery of some of the School's papers (courses) in this area. You will also be expected to supervise postgraduate students.
You will have a PhD in economics.
You should have a record of high-level research success and; a track record of successful external research funding and/or engagement with the business community is desirable.
Massey University and its College of Business have made a large commitment to research and scholarship. This has resulted in Finance at Massey University being ranked No 1 in New Zealand; we are seeking to develop an equally strong economics programme. We are accredited by AACSB, Association of MBAs, and are a CFA partner school. We offer a low teaching load (typically three courses a year) and beginning academics will normally start their career with us at a teaching load of two courses in their first year. If the Associate Head of School position is attached to this appointment the appointee will have a reduced teaching load while holding this responsibility.
In the recent Mercer annual worldwide quality of living rankings Auckland was ranked fifth among the world’s top cities. Massey’s campus in Auckland is 15 minutes by road from central Auckland.
The School of Economics and Finance offers degree and diploma courses at the undergraduate, masters and Ph.D. levels. Research activities are supported by a collegial research environment, a Research Consultant, and IT Research Analyst and major databases such as DataStream, CRSP, Compustat, etc. We support international conferences and other staff development activities. Faculty are actively engaged in research and have published in top journals like the American Economic Review, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Empirical Finance, the Journal of Banking and Finance, among others.
