Senior Manager, Environmental Initiatives

SENIOR MANAGER, ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES
GLOBAL LEADERSHIP FELLOW
 
The mission of the Environment Team is to facilitate and stimulate public–private collaboration on global environment, natural resource and sustainability issues. In particular, the Environment Team designs and delivers a small number of World Economic Forum global initiatives on environmental issues. At present this includes climate change, water security and the circular economy.
 
The Senior Manager, Environmental Initiatives, will manage a global public–private initiative on the circular economy.
 
Responsibilities
• Managing a large multistakeholder project on the circular economy, including technical oversight and relationship management across industry, government, academic, international organization and civil society stakeholders
• Provide thought leadership on wider World Economic Forum business sustainability research, events and strategy, including the strategy and policies of relevant international organizations, governments, industries and NGOs/think tanks
• Management of relevant Global Agenda Councils
• Coordinate resources to deliver the circular economy initiative, requiring community and expert engagement
• Work closely with internal and external leaders of related projects • Grow, sustain and deepen project issue collaboration with senior executives, academic leaders and government officials, as well as with internal Forum staff
• Work with industry community managers across the World Economic Forum to help engage more stakeholders in Forum partnerships through the value proposition of the circular economy initiative
 
Major challenges
• Continuously keep abreast of developments across all aspects of business, sustainability and circular economy issues and help shape the wider Forum agenda on the issue
• Manage and deliver a successful public–private global initiative on the circular economy, ensuring the most innovative and important stakeholders are not only engaged, but are also champions of the work
• Raise global awareness of the World Economic Forum’s leading role in addressing the most critical environmental issues of the 21st century
• Create and articulate content around specific events to help promote both the initiative and the agenda, in particular the Annual Meeting, the Annual Meeting of the New Champions, the Summit on the Global Agenda, and other regional meetings as appropriate
 
You have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field with 8 years of relevant professional experience in public, private or civil society sectors. You have experience in managing business and sustainability related initiatives, ideally in China/ASEAN countries, and have an established network of contacts in the sector. You have a demonstrated ability to work with industry leaders and issue experts in academia, international organizations, governments and other non-governmental organizations. You have a clear track record of success in project management and excellent written and spoken English.
