Trainer in Writing & Photography Skills

Job Overview:

Free Press Unlimited is looking for a trainer with a background in media and/or journalism studies to assist with a writing and photography training skills workshop for one of our projects within the Middle East.

The aim of the training is to support a team of 15 editors, and reporters to look critically in to the way and the quality of they work to see if and where there is room for improvement. Ethics, news selection, and angles are dealt with in the training together with practical and experiential writing exercises. Good practices in photography, framing and being aware of the message you give with a picture are part of the training programme.

Requirements:

• Proven educational background and/or work experience as a trainer in a similar or the designated field.
• Experience with print and non-print journalistic writing and photography; strong writing skills.
• Fluency in Arabic and English, written and spoken.
• Available for at least 12 full time days. Expected start date: 15th of July, 2013. End date: 30th of July, 2013.

Desired Skills:

• Good research and analytic skills; knowledgeable about investigative journalism and ethical issues within the field.
• Good photography skills (for still images).
• Ability to monitor, evaluate, and recognise weaknesses and strengths of the trainees.
• Good communication and inter-cultural skills; able to effectively communicate with trainees, other trainers and supervisors.
• Pedagogical/teaching skills.

Main Responsibilities:

• To train a group of Journalists in the Middle East on the necessary print and non-print writing skills.
• In addition to writing skills training, the trainer will also be responsible for training on the use of photography mainly involving still images.
• To design layout for training
• To have good assessment tools that can be used to evaluate the training and the trainees' performances.
• To report on the results of the training and give recommendations to the trainees and to Free Press Unlimited.

Free Press Unlimited offers a lump sum fee based on a set number of working days per month based on experience and output curriculum.
