International Campaigner – Land Grabs , : Johannesburg, London, Rio, Nairobi or Bangkok

SALARY: £31,504
CONTRACT: Permanent
LOCATION: Johannesburg, London, Rio, Nairobi or Bangkok
CLOSING DATE: Thursday 4th October 2012
INTERVIEW DATE: Wednesday 17th October 2012

At ActionAid we've undergone significant planned change to ensure we are better positioned to deliver lasting solutions to the problems of global poverty. A new structure and fresh thinking has re-energised the organisation. We've now created fantastic career opportunities for experienced sector professionals who want to be part of an organisation that is delivering a bold strategy to provide sustained improvements to the poorest and most excluded people in the world. Join our action to end poverty now and be part of something truly amazing.

Our 2012-17 strategy sets ambitious objectives. One of the most important is to bring to an end the European and UK targets on biofuels that are driving land grabs in many African countries. This is causing farmers to be displaced from their lands and increases in the price of staple foods around the world. As soon as you join us, you will take over responsibility for delivering our Europe-wide campaign on biofuels and plan for our much broader international land grabs campaign.

You’ll manage multi-country actions, events and mobilization activities so they meet our objectives. This will involve drawing support from across our international federation and helping to plan each country’s campaign. Much of your success will also depend on your working effectively with our Land Grabs Campaign Manager and Global Engagement Team so that our public and supporter campaigning and communication strategies win influential and widespread support.

Having already planned and executed campaigns that successfully engaged the public and influenced decision-makers, you understand the audiences we need to address, and how to tailor messages and delivery to them. You know how to make complicated ideas easy to understand, and have produced campaign materials that demonstrate this online and in print. You’re also adept at online research and understand digital campaigning methods and tactics.

On a more general level, you have shown you’re skilled at building effective working relationships and influencing audiences from a wide range of backgrounds. As a highly capable project manager, you’re also used to working with outside agencies and overcoming all sorts of problems to meet your targets on time. You will do that again here.
