Located in Ruimsig, Johannesburg, Monash South Africa offers degrees in Social Science, Business and Commerce, Information Technology and Health Sciences, each with a variety of majors or specialisation options. The Opportunity
Monash South Africa is seeking an outstanding appointee to provide academic and strategic leadership to the School of Social Science. The school works in close conjunction with the Faculty of Arts at Monash Australia.
With approximately 20 full-time staff, the school offers nine majors: Child and Youth Development, Communication and Media Studies, Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies, Geography and Environmental Science, International Studies, Journalism, Philosophy and Sociology. It also offers Honours and Master of Philosophy degrees.

Candidates for this position should have research strengths in an academic discipline represented in the school. The appointee will be expected to: provide leadership; manage, foster and promote research; participate in developing and implementing campus and institutional level research and education policies; play an active role in the enhancement of quality and the development of curricula at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels where appropriate; and participate in community extension affairs and in the professional, commercial and Government sectors where appropriate.

Criteria for appointment include: a research doctorate in a discipline relevant to the School of Social Science; an international reputation for outstanding research; a proven record of obtaining external research grants and successfully supervising postgraduate research students to completion; proven excellence in teaching; highly developed leadership, networking and management skills; and excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

It is expected that the successful applicant will be given an associated appointment at associate professorial or professorial level in a relevant school of the Faculty of Arts, Monash University Australia.

Duration
The appointment will be for a fixed-term of five (5) years. Subject to performance and other criteria, a further term may be negotiable.
