Rio Tinto Exploration is looking for a Principal II Exploration Geoscientist with a strong technical background and the ability to communicate effectively with peers to join the Rio Tinto Exploration Team  in Duluth, Minnesota.
 
This role will have the following accountabilities:
  • Apply appropriate exploration techniques and technology (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, sampling, remote sensing, resource modeling, mapping, drilling)
  • Compile and interpret geological data and information
  • Collaborate with multiple functional teams, e.g., technical, commercial, HSEC, HR, logistics, finance
  • Fulfill technical milestones and monitor project progress against these to enable continual project prioritization
  • Generate targets to deliver discovery by providing technical innovations, geoscientific data and available resources
  • Provide technical support to specific components of project work that may include early stage generative through to order of magnitude and handover to product group
  • Supervise contractors and service providers by coordinating the tender process; content of the contract, and monitor the contract deliverables in accordance with RT standards
  • Provide leadership in HSEC by anticipating current and future risks and managing these
  • Manage all HSEC related activities within one's area to ensure standards are met
Qualifications:
  • At least 10 years of exploration experience
  • Nickel sulfide exploration experience preferred
  • Innovation experience in your field of expertise
  • Experience in the complete exploration process
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in geology or related field
  • Project management and operational skills with demonstrated ability to plan and carryout project activities including managing staff and contractors
  • Broad knowledge of mineral deposits for a range of commodities
  • Experience in mineral exploration techniques for a variety of commodity types
  • Sound understanding of technical concepts and principles
  • Depending upon project circumstances, a considerable amount of field work will be required in this role 
  • Must enjoy working outdoors; extreme weather conditions and terrains will be experienced
  • Preference for geologists who are registered members of a recognized professional association
