AngloGold Ashanti Electricians - Fixed Plant

AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents.   AGA employs over 62,000 people globally.  In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager.  Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%.  The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade.  The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project).  Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.

We are now seeking 6 x Electricians - Fixed Plant to join our Maintenance team in early 2013 for the Tropicana Gold Mine.

Accountable to the Electrical Superintendent, the purpose of these roles is to provide an electrical service for designated fixed plant infrastructure across the mine site so that fixed plant infrastructure operates in a reliable, efficient and sustainable run time. This is required during the construction phase and before mobilisation of the Maintenance work group. These roles will initially be based at either the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine or the Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

The main focus of the roles at Tropicana includes executing the electrical work for the bore fields, RO plant, waste water treatment plant, mine staging pumping system and non in-pit water infrastructure
Once in operations at Tropicana the focus of the roles will include but is not limited to the following:
  • Carrying out Maintenance Tasks in the Mill Area as directed by Maintenance Project Co-ordinator
  • Maintaining Crushers, Conveyor Systems, Pumps, Ball Mill, Concentrators, Vibrating Screens & Feeders, Cranes & Hoists, Cyclones and all associated Wiring, PLC's and Instrumentation and Control. As well as Electrical duties, the tasks involved in maintaining this equipment may also include Welding, Painting, Greasing (lubrication) and Fitting
  • Carrying out electrical Maintenance Tasks on other areas including the Accommodation Village, Mine, Bore Fields or on the Light Vehicle Fleet
  • Carry out installation of new equipment or modifications to existing equipment
  • Availability after hours on a "Call Out" roster basis to respond to any equipment breakdown
  • Assist with shutdown co-ordination and execution
The ideal candidates will possess:
  • A current A grade electrical worker's licence endorsed "electrical fitter and/or electrical mechanic" issued under the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991
  • A dual trade as an Instrument Technician or have experience with instrumentation and PLC's
  • Extensive experience in the maintenance of mineral processing or heavy industrial plants
  • Hold, or be eligible to attain, a high voltage operator's license
  • Computer literacy
  • WA A Class Driver's Licence
Prior experience working on a construction/commissioning project will be highly regarded.
