Haiti Marketing Field Manager


I. TechnoServe Background:

TechnoServe is an international, non-profit economic development organization founded in 1968 out of a conviction that a vibrant private sector is an essential foundation for economic growth and poverty reduction.  TechnoServe undertakes targeted, catalytic technical assistance and other programming to increase the competitiveness of entrepreneurs, businesses and industries that in-turn provide sustainable employment, inclusion of the poor and increased incomes.  TechnoServe operates in 25 developing countries with over 1000 employees.  A substantial portion of our work is in agriculture, enhancing farm productivity and commodity quality and addressing gaps in processing and other agribusiness capacities.  Our programs increase smallholder access to new technologies, aggregation and storage mechanisms, markets, critical information and finance.  TechnoServe also undertakes structured programs to identify and support high potential entrepreneurs in various sectors through leadership mentoring networks, formalization support, access to capital and development of sustainable business services such as accounting, finance, marketing and human resource management.

II. Program Description:

TechnoServe has been working in Haiti since 2009 and is registered as a foreign NGO working in Haiti. We are currently running three projects where we work with smallholder farmers, farmer groups and small businesses. TechnoServe has a staff of approximately 60 people in Haiti. Our head office is situated in Port au Prince, and we have three field offices in l’Artibonite and Plateau Central.
The mango program started in September 2010 and is funded through August 2015 (five years). The program is funded by the Coca-Cola Company, Inter-American Development Bank, USAID, Soros Economic Development Fund, and Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, as well as private donors.  The objective of the program is to double the income from mango of 25,000 Haitian farmers. The program is targeting mango-producing areas of the Centre and Artibonite departments of Haiti.

III. Position Description:

TechnoServe Haiti’s Mango Program is looking for a Professional to lead a large team of business advisors, agricultural technical advisors, and extension agents (animators) in the Center and Artibonite provinces of Haiti. The position will require up to 80% travel Monday-Friday.
Tasks and Activities
Supervision of Field Team
  • Conduct monthly meetings with extension agents (animators) to review performance, gather feedback, and set objectives
  • Conduct monthly meetings with business advisors and set priorities/ agenda.
  • Review and provide feedback on business advisor reports and performance.
  • Regularly visit business advisors to supervise activities and provide coaching and support.
Producer Business Group  (PBG) development
  • Set priorities and provide guidance to business advisors in support of PBGs
  • Seek potential markets for PBG products
  • Assist the training manager in developing and improving effective modules to develop PBG business skills according to their needs.
  • Responsible for results – PBG gross and net income from sales and other business activities.
Program Management
  • Verify and approve Business Advisor expense reports
  • Ensure functioning, maintenance, and inventories of field offices
  • Assist the Program Manager with donor reports and annual work plan.
  • Responsible for the achievement of key program indicators related to field team performance.

IV. Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working in private sector or demonstrated success supporting entrepreneurial business management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, teamwork and relationship building
  • At least Bachelor Degree in Business, Economics, or related field
  • Minimum one year working with small growers or producer cooperatives
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and responsively, with a strong commitment to excellence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Able to adapt to changing working conditions
  • A Fluency in Creole, French and English
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Google apps.
  • Willingness to travel in rural communities and outside the country
