Organizational Setting |
The Department of Safeguards (SG) is the organizational hub for the implementation of IAEA safeguards. The IAEA implements nuclear verification activities for more than 175 States in accordance with their safeguards agreements. The safeguards activities are undertaken within a dynamic and technically challenging environment including advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities and complemented by the political diversity of the countries. The Department of Safeguards consists of six Divisions: three Operations Divisions: A, B and C, for the implementation of verification activities around the world; three Technical Divisions: Division of Concepts and Planning, Division of Information Management, and Division of Technical and Scientific Services; as well as two Offices: the Office of Safeguards Analytical Services and the Office of Information and Communication Services. The Division of Technical and Scientific Services (SGTS) is responsible for nuclear and other measurement systems applied in verification activities, containment and surveillance techniques and all verification logistics. The Non Destructive Assay Section (TND) consists of two teams: Portable and Resident NDA, and Nuclear Security. The Section is responsible for the development, provision, testing and calibration of equipment and related data evaluation methodologies for non-destructive assay of radioactive and nuclear materials. In addition, the Section provides expertise, including field support, in the area of application of non-destructive assay to Safeguards and Nuclear Security. The Section also coordinates the review, identification, evaluation and testing of emerging innovative technologies, having potential for future safeguards and nuclear security applications. |
Main Purpose |
The main purpose of the NDA Technician is to ensure availability and timely delivery of a pool of highly reliable and accurate selected non destructive assay instrument including coincidence counting, criticality check and spent fuel verification instruments for inspection use. |
Working Relationships |
This position requires daily contact and coordination with other staff of the Team and with other Teams and Sections in the Division. Contacts outside of the Division will mainly be with SG inspectors from Divisions of Operation. Contacts with equipment supplier will occur several times per quarter as well as with development teams contracted by members state support programmes. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at €46 145 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), six weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance. |
