The Diagnostics Group in the Technology Solutions Global Program at PATH conducts research and development, technical evaluation, introduction, and technology transfer of low-cost, rapid, novel and easy to use diagnostic tests that are appropriate for use in developing country health systems. We are seeking motivated candidates with a solid background in the pathobiology and epidemiology of malaria to play a key role as a Seattle-based Program Officer in a newly funded project focused on diagnostics for malaria elimination. Position responsibilities include:
  • Assess current pipeline of malaria diagnostics for their suitability in detecting malaria infection in asymptomatic populations, patients with low parasite density, and in surveillance programs.
  • Quickly synthesize technical literature and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop reports and recommendations.
  • Analyze data and present results at internal and external meetings.
  • Prepare study reports and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Assist in the development of new grant proposals based on project work.
  • Domestic or international travel up to 30%.
Required Skills
  • Advanced clinical and/or epidemiological experience in field-based malaria diagnosis in control, and/or elimination settings, and have in-depth knowledge of malaria pathobiology.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive with the ability to learn quickly in a new environment.
  • Strong communicator (both written and verbal), and amenable to achieving project goals as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and able to adapt to new computer-based applications.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate protocols, data summaries, and quantitative analyses.
Required Experience
Advanced clinical degree or advanced degree in epidemiology plus a minimum of five years of relevant experience in malaria research. Demonstrated experience developing and managing research or implementation projects. Experience evaluating diagnostics in lab- or field-based settings is preferred.
