Programme Officer (Urban) , Kathmandu, Nepal


Location: Kathmandu, Nepal, with regular travel to partners’ offices and programme sites
Duration: 2 years with an initial probation period of six months
WaterAid in Nepal (WAN) is an international NGO. It has been working in Nepal since 1987. Its headquarters is in London. Its vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation (WASH). It emphasises scaling up inclusive, affordable and sustainable community-managed water supplies, promoting sanitation, improving sustained hygiene behaviours, and increasing advocacy work for responsible WASH governance.
WAN seeks to recruit for following position: Programme Officer (Urban)
Position DescriptionReporting to Urban Programme Manager, the Programme Officer (Urban) is expected to:
  • Assist the Manager in programme development, implementation and monitoring of all urban service delivery related activities undertaken by WAN’s partner organisations.
  • Support the Manager to develop funding proposals, manage donors’ contracts effectively, manage partners and bring innovation to the programme.
  • Work closely with partner organisations to ensure an effective delivery of WASH programmes to the urban poor by helping them achieve agreed-upon output and deliverables within a given timeframe.
  • Ensure compliance with WAN’s country strategy paper, WAN's approaches, shifts, policies and procedures for partners.
  • Be willing and able to travel to WAN’s partners’ offices and project sites for technical backstopping, monitoring and mainstreaming work.
Essential Skills and Experiences 
  • A sense of active work-related curiosity, a learning ability, and a demonstrated commitment to do results-driven development work, even under ambiguous circumstances.
  • A team player who adds value by working collaboratively to deliver results.
  • A degree in social sciences or humanities, preferably with a strong writing and synthesis skills.
  • A minimum of three years of work experiences on development.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with, supporting and building capacity of, local partner organisations.
  • Background in working with urban poor, municipalities, development stakeholders.
  • Proficient in using word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Fluent in spoken and written Nepali and English languages.
  • Able to commit to WaterAid’s values and child protection procedures.
