The role

We are currently seeking a Project Manager (Transmission and Distribution Design) to work closely with our other specialists to to join the team within its Africa Division.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of the design process from initial layout concept to full detailed design documentation
  • Responsible for preparing designs (to the level specified in the project contract) for development of Tranmission and Distribution projects
  • Manage the production of design documentation (design reports, drawings, contract specifications, bill of quantities, tender documents etc)
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant design codes and standards as outlined in the contract and the national requirements
  • Liase with the client and its engineers as required and attend meetings with client as required
  • Represent the client in technical and contractual issues and provide relevant expertise
  • Review studies, designs and records relevant to the project execution, contract administration, as required
  • Review the clients development program to ensure design works comply with the program and relevant standards to meet the clients and SMEC's criteria
With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.
Suitable applicants will have/be:
  • Degree qualified Electrical engineer with a minimum 10 years project management experience covering reconnaissance, investigation, planning, design and development of Tranmission and Distribution projects
  • Strong prior experience in design of major infrastructure projects
  • Highly adept at line managing other engineers
  • Strong relationships management skills and business acumen
  • A high level of contract appreciation
  • Strong computer skills, strong writing and communication skills and work well in team environment.
  • An exposure to both international funded projects and private development will be an advantage
