As part of the world's largest broadcaster, BBC Africa is one of the most trusted international news organisations broadcasting to the continent. From our bases in London and Africa, we broadcast to huge audiences on radio, online and mobile phone platforms. To add to this, we have now successfully launched dedicated television offerings with BBC Focus on Africa TV and BBC Dira ya Dunia TV.
In this new role, you'll work closely with editors in London and Africa to ensure that African stories are covered in the most innovative, cost-effective and relevant manner. As a Senior Broadcast Journalist [Planning], you'll help organise TV coverage on both Focus on Africa and Dira ya Dunia - as well as other BBC Africa outlets - to maximise the use of African output across all BBC services. Another part of your role will be to help maintain and improve the editorial, presentational and technical aspects of multimedia BBC Africa output whilst also playing a key role in developing and evolving work practices to meet the needs of a fast-changing news market.
With recent experience as a senior television journalist, you'll also have familiarity with radio and online/social media output and how to exploit multi-platform opportunities to maximum effect. You'll need to have excellent knowledge and understanding of African news and current affairs as well as global stories, and to have a sound knowledge of our audiences with the ability to anticipate changes in our market so that we can guide our output accordingly. With experience of managing staff and resources, you'll also have complete fluency in English. Fluency in Kiswahili would be highly desirable as would any of Hausa, Somali, French, Kinyarawanda or Arabic.
