A postdoctoral position, funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust, is available to work with Dr Janis Shute in the Pharmacology and Clinical Immunology Research Group                                        (http://www.port.ac.uk/research/ibbs/pharmacologyandclinicalimmunology/) on the expression and function of CFTR in human lung microvascular endothelial cells. The project will involve functional characterisation of CFTR using electrophysiology, molecular biology and pharmacology, immunohistochemistry and microscopy.   
The research will be conducted in laboratories in St Michaels Building at the University of Portsmouth, including a newly refurbished electrophysiology laboratory. The Pharmacology and Clinical Immunology Research Group forms part of the Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Sciences (http://www.port.ac.uk/research/ibbs/) in which there are more than 30 principal investigators forming a critical mass of experts with diverse research interests including biomolecular structure, molecular medicine, neurophysiology, genetics, biomaterials and biotechnology and neuro-oncology. Research in the Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Sciences was rated world class in the latest RAE, with significant world-leading research in all areas.    
Applicants must have a PhD and research experience in cell culture and molecular biology. Experience in pharmacology, electrophysiology or immunohistochemistry and microscopy techniques is desirable but not essential.
