PATH seeks a Technical Director under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Malaria Diagnosis and Case Management Program. The program aims to achieve universal diagnosis and appropriate case management for malaria by strengthening the capacity of malaria affected countries to provide high-quality diagnostic and treatment services for malaria and related childhood illnesses, and possibly other infectious diseases, at all levels of the health system.
The Technical Director is considered 'key personnel' and must meet or exceed the qualifications listed below. This individual will be responsible for providing technical leadership of the project and supporting the Project Director with his/her responsibilities.
Specific responsibilities may include:
  • Spearheading the technical leadership, management, and monitoring of malaria diagnosis and case management activities. 
  • Providing technical support to developing countries on malaria diagnosis and case management. 
  • Supporting the development project work plans in each country. 
  • Contributing to the identification and scaling-up of best practices in malaria diagnosis and case management. 
  • Participating in the documentation and dissemination of project activities.
  • Identifying short-term technical assistance needs and recruit consultants as appropriate.
Required Skills
  • Demonstrated international credibility as a leader on malaria diagnosis and/or case management. 
  • Proven skill in working with senior-level representatives of developing country governments, international organizations, other bilateral donor and civil society organizations, and private sector organizations. 
  • Demonstrated management, leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
  • Full professional proficiency in English, with excellent oral and written communications skills.
Required Experience
The candidate is required to possess a doctoral level degree in medicine, public health, tropical medicine, epidemiology, health management or other health related field with a minimum of 10 years' experience working on international projects related to infectious diseases, preferably in malaria. It is also necessary that the candidate has at least 5 years of senior level experience providing technical support to developing countries on malaria diagnosis and/or case management. Experience in management of public health programming involved in the introduction and scale-up of technical interventions is a must.
