About the Position:
The Manager, European Regional Affairs (Europe/CIS) is a newly created position within the Internet Society. As a key member of the European Regional Bureau team, this person will be responsible for helping develop and execute ISOC's strategic and operational objectives in the region, in particular but not only in the CIS region and Russia. Working collaboratively within ISOC and its functional departments, the individual will engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders and help deliver activities and programmes in line with ISOC's mission and values. The role requires a highly motivated multi-skilled individual who can work independently to deliver desired end objectives. The ideal candidate will be multilingual with a deep appreciation of European/CIS cultures and perspectives, will have strong diplomatic, communications, and analytical skills, and be able to manage multiple priorities and activities concurrently.
This position will be, ideally, located in Eastern Europe and will report to the European Bureau Director, located in Brussels (BE).
Responsibilities:
  •  Working closely with the Regional Director, execute and strengthen ISOC's external regional stakeholder engagement, including with governments/policymakers, the corporate sector, civil society and the media.
  •  Closely monitor local and regional developments related to the Internet, particularly at the intersection of policy, technology, and business. Analyse potential impact of technical trends and public policy issues, and help identify where appropriate responses are needed.
  •  Identify and analyse business and resource development opportunities, including potential project funders and partners in support of key initiatives and activities, acquiring organisational members and event/project sponsors, and execute plans to realise such opportunities.
  •  Work with ISOC's functional departments and staff to identify, strategise and execute projects and activities related to overall Internet development and capacity building, including promoting the work of the IETF and improving participation from CIS countries, building localised technical and policy capacity, empowering youth and encouraging minority community and gender-balanced participation.
  •  Plan, coordinate, manage and oversee ISOC's regional events such as INETs, Internet Forums and Symposiums, road shows and other events.
  •  Coordinate regional projects, initiatives and activities, and liaise with appropriate stakeholders and resources to ensure deadlines are met and all relevant activities are completed in a timely manner.
  •  Serve as a spokesperson and ambassador for ISOC in the region; in co-ordination with ISOC functional departments as appropriate, compose and prepare speeches, presentations, briefs, reports and other relevant documents, including confidential documents.
  •  Engage in dialogue with internal and external stakeholders and the larger Internet community, including ISOC members (individual and organisational) and Chapters; negotiate positions and ably influence resolution on issues with conflicting stakeholder views.
  •  Undertake administrative and logistics tasks for the Regional Bureau as and when required, including Regional Bureau related reporting functions.
Desired Qualifications:
  •  Bachelor’s degree from recognized University
  •  Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in an international and diverse environment within the European/CIS region.
  •  Fluent in English (spoken and written) and at least one major European language, preferably from CIS region. Ability to converse in multiple CIS languages will be a distinct advantage.
  •  Familiarity with effective methods of working professionally inside and outside the European region, and familiarity with Internet organisations in the region and globally.
  •  Ability to operate effectively at all levels from the detailed, operational level to interaction at the CEO level.
  •  Deep and demonstrated understanding of business development and fundraising; including the ability to establish and enhance partnerships, seek and secure sponsorships and grants, establish credibility and manage and nurture relationships, with existing and potential partners, sponsors and funders.
  •  Broad understanding and appreciation of the Internet ecosystem; including actors and players, and the big picture issues related to overall Internet development and evolution.
  •  Proven ability to communicate complex and sensitive information, policies and positions to internal and external stakeholders verbally and through written communications
  •  Outstanding diplomatic and presentation skills.
  •  Proven strategist with persistent focus on mission, effectiveness, outcomes and organisational advantage.
  •  Accomplishments that reflect teamwork, integrity and accountability.

  •  Ability to work independently (highly self-motivated) in a fast paced and at times stressful international environment.
  •  Willingness and ability to travel extensively in the region and beyond, including at short notice; and work flexible hours.
