BBC WM 95.6 is the biggest of the BBC's Local Radio stations outside of London and competes in one of the toughest radio markets. Over the last twelve months we have built up a strong line-up of big personality presenters passionate about Birmingham and the Black Country and gained a reputation for breaking stories, winning awards for our original journalism and multi-media coverage. Now, our mission is to spread the word and attract new listeners. We’re looking for an Impact Producer to shape and deliver an exciting strategy to help us build reach. BBC WM 95.6 is based in a multi media centre at the Mailbox in Birmingham and is co-sited with regional television and BBC Network teams
Role
This is a new and exciting role at BBC WM 95.6 You’ll work with the management team to develop an impact / local marketing strategy for the station. You’ll ensure that activity is on-target, creative, looks and sounds great and is consistent with our guidelines. Working closely with programme teams you’ll help shape on air ideas and content with a view to attracting new audiences, this means making sure great radio moments are heard across the station, across the BBC and picked up externally - particularly local press and social media. You’ll plan and manage our involvement and branding at local events making sure we’re in the right place talking to the right people. You’ll be able to work alone but have plenty of support, including the senior team at BBC WM 95.6, our programme teams, ER Marketing and a local impact budget.
Requirements
• You’ll have a thorough understanding and a passion for BBC local radio and why our audiences love it.
• Experience of marketing and developing brands in broadcast / media environment.
• Passion for, and knowledge of, the news agenda, so you can talk with credibility to our news and programme teams.
• Experience of dealing with external partners and media.
• A full understanding of brand strategy, marketing techniques, and knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research techniques
• Experience of influencing and managing a wide range of stakeholders in a complex organisation
• Experience of delivering with a limited budget - using resources effectively to balance what you really want to do with what you can actually afford to do – and still achieve a great result.
Skills
• Self-starter, strategic and a good team player.
• Creative - able to devise innovative ways to create impact with the target audience.
• Attention to detail – understand the importance of getting branding and the message right.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with programme teams, on air talent and management.
• Ability to influence and persuade people at all levels to build support for courses of action
• Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to enable the post holder to influence senior internal and external stakeholders
• A highly analytical approach, able to critically evaluate ideas and information
