The Operations Team have a fixed-term, twelve month appointment available to cover a secondment from the team to another team within the University.
The Operations Team is responsible for the management, maintenance and monitoring of the University’s IT infrastructure, including central Windows and Unix servers, IT network components and centrally-managed services, such as email and web servers. The Operations Team is also responsible for the network at the Universities of Medway joint venture with University of Greenwich and Canterbury Christ Church University.
The post holder, as part of the Operations Team, will be responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of the University’s IT infrastructure, especially the central Windows servers, the IT network components, email and web servers at the various University campuses.
The Person
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent work experience) and have continued experience of working in an IT operations environment. They will have extensive knowledge of Windows 2008 R2 server configuration and administration, and support and development experience of at least three of the following: Windows/Solaris; web/email servers; IP networking/communications; data backup; designing and implementing operational procedures. A working knowledge of web and email servers is also required for this post.

The Department
Information Services is comprised of four sections: Customer Support, Library Collections and IT Development together directly support almost all areas of University activity, and the Planning and Administration section supports the work of the department. Two JISC services (JISC Monitoring Unit and JISC RSC South East) are also located within the department and provide services to the JISC and wider educational community.
A strong emphasis is placed on user support and all provision is targeted as closely as possible to user needs. In line with the University’s strategic direction on information management, further emphasis is now being placed on the importance of increased electronic information provision, with a view to making more effective provision in some areas and developing new provision in others.
