Climate Business Engagement Advisor

We are looking for a Climate Business Engagement Advisor to support the national or program offices in priority countries (large emitting economies) with the development and implementation of strategies to drive the business sector in the country towards a low-carbon development pathway in line with a 2ºC carbon budget and/or a low-emission development strategy for the country. In addition, the CBE advisor will support the development and advancement of the business engagement tools and initiatives that are used across the network (e.g. Climate Savers) to approach and collaborate with companies in the establishment of voluntary emission reduction and climate leadership targets.

Location/Contract Details:

WWF office in Mexico City, Mexico (GCEI Hub).

Main responsibilities:

  • To support local offices across the network with the development and implementation of strategies in order to engage heavy-emitting companies in the country through the process of measuring and disclosing their emissions and setting emission reduction targets.
  • To lead the establishment of strategic partnerships with other organizations working on business and climate in the priority countries.
  • To support local offices in priority countries in the process of establishing partnerships with local businesses from the initial contact with the company through the negotiation of ambitious emission reduction targets.
  • Carries out any such reasonable duties as delegated from the CBE Head.

What you need:

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies 
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in climate change mitigation within a corporate setting.
  • At least five years of experience working with climate certification schemes at the company, project or product level (e.g. Climate Savers, PAS 2050, ISO 14064, Gold Standard, etc.).
  • A clear understanding of climate science, climate economics, renewable energy and the business drivers and levers for climate change mitigation at the corporate level.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and diplomacy skills (at a high level).
  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent command of English and Spanish; other languages are an asset, particularly Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese and Polish.
