Publication/Editorial Associate
Position Summary
Futures Group is recruiting a publications/editorial associate for a project based in our Washington, DC, office. The project seeks to improve the policy environment for reproductive health, HIV, and safe motherhood programs in developing countries. This position is perfect for gaining exposure to an international field through the editing, formatting, design, and production of documents. It also provides an opportunity to be engaged with the broader knowledge management and communication initiatives within the project.
Key Responsibilities
• Designing, formatting, and laying out documents and PowerPoint presentations
• Copyediting project documents and communications and proofreading publications edited by freelancer editors
• Providing administrative assistance to the entire publication process
• Managing editors, designers, and printing companies to prepare drafts for publication
• Supporting conferences and meetings, including logistics and document/PPT preparation and printing
• Preparing materials for web-based display and dissemination, including 508 compliance requirements for PDFs and document posting
• Managing the photo library and components of the project Intranet
• Compiling information for project documents
Qualifications (required & preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree plus 2–4 years of relevant experience
• High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Internet applications (to solve MS Office questions or have the ability to research the answer)
• Proficiency in all or part of the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Adobe Acrobat
• Experience in editing, writing, publishing, and/or communication fields
• Strong command of English grammar and proofreading skills
• Attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills with ability to work on multiple projects at once
• Proficiency in French or Spanish desirable, not required
• Familiarity with international health and development (family planning, MCH, HIV) desirable, not required
