Conservation Director
We are looking for a Conservation Director who will be responsible for providing leadership and technical support for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of WWF’s conservation strategy in WAMER (Western Africa Marine Eco-Region : Mauritanie, Senegal, The Gambia).Location:
WWF office in Senegal
Main responsibilities:
- Coordinate the operational implementation of the programme: lead program staff in developing annual work plans, and oversee and ensure implementation of those plans.
- Provide supervision and guidance to programme personnel
- Coordinate the implementation of the Conservation Plan
- Ensure conformity of expenditure with budget and work plans
- Develop, regularly review and update project monitoring tools – data collection formats, check-lists of program activities, tools and procedures
- Streamlining reporting systems – provide assistance to Programme Managers and project leaders, including external offices (The Gambia, Cape Verde, etc) , in the process of completing the (different) reporting formats
- Co-ordinate reviewing & editing of all reports on programme delivery, including quarterly and final reports to donors on results and impacts, and ensure they meet required standards,
- Monitor projects progress and problems encountered and correction measures to be taken
- Liaison with relevant partners regarding project M&E - Follow-up that all project progress reports (technical and financial) are communicated to all concerned stakeholders in complete and timely manner.
- Follow-up of implementation of recommendations of programme and projects evaluations and include them for future design purposes.
- Ensure that all reports (financial and technical) are posted on WWF database, in due time
- Provides leadership in the development of the Conservation Plan by identifying and designing new projects through participatory processes
What you need:
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies- The Conservation Director must have an advanced university degree (Master, Ph.D or equivalent) in natural resources management, biological sciences, environmental sciences or related field experience.
- The Conservation Director must have broad working experience in conservation (at least 10 years experience). He must have a good knowledge of the WAMER Eco-region. Additional international experience and understanding of field-based activities is essential.
- Good technical, organizational, interpersonal and teambuilding skills essential.
- Ability to develop and co-ordinate conservation plans and projects and to work effectively with a wide variety of partners and disciplines.
- Excellent understanding of ecoregional conservation, and the principles of conservation biology, as well as West African’s biodiversity.
- Good understanding of WWF’s objectives and conservation strategies and standards.
- Good understanding of environmental policies in West Africa
- Diplomatic and multi-cultural skills.
- Strong skills in programme and planning, monitoring, and evaluation, and project cycle management.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French.
