(Associate) Professor / Programme Manager of Port Development

As part of the Water Science and Engineering Department, the Coastal Systems & Engineering and Port Developmentchair group's research focuses on modelling coastal processes, for short-term coastal hazards prediction, for evaluating long-term morphodynamic changes in tidal basins, estuaries and on open coasts, on assessing climate change impacts on coasts, on flexible port planning and on simulation of ship traffic and physical processes in ports and inland waterways. In this research the group works closely together with the Hydraulic Engineering section of TU Delft, Deltares, NCK and international organizations such as USGS, US Office of Naval Research and CSIRO (Australia). The group has excellent collaborations with several Chinese institutes, through joint PhD and MSc studies in the Yangtze estuary and the East China Sea and is active in coastal studies in Vietnam, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Columbia and various West-African countries.
The Port Development specialisation is responsible for three out of 13 taught modules and for the MSc research carried out in this field. The specialisation deals with the planning of ports and waterways (including the hydraulic engineering, nautical, economic and environmental aspects) and with the design of components of these systems, i.e. approach channels, quays and jetties, canals and lock systems. Along with the above mentioned areas, other aspects such as capacity of berths and waterways, safety, and logistical efficiency play an important role, often requiring the application of simulation models. In view of the retirement of the present part-time professor the Institute is now looking for an academic leader of this group (Associate) Professor / Programme Manager ofPort Development.
