MANAGING DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Since 1963 and in 146 countries, ACDI/VOCA has empowered people in developing and transitional nations to succeed in the global economy. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development and food security to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil societies. ACDI/VOCA has approximately 80 projects in 35 countries and total revenues of approximately $168 million.
We are seeking a D.C.-based Managing Director to provide technical expertise, new business development experience, and project supervision in our Community Development practice area. Essential responsibilities include: providing management oversight of a portfolio of projects; participating in project design efforts; leading proposal plans and writing teams; drafting concept papers; supervising headquarters and field-base staff; identifying and negotiating with potential collaborators on new business initiatives; training project implementation teams and partner organizations; responding to requests from the field for technical assistance; and conducting field-based and desk research.  

Qualifications


A master’s degree in business, international development, agriculture, finance, economics or another related field is required. A minimum of 14 years of direct project experience in international development, including overseas experience, is also required. Knowledge of the rules, regulations and policies of USAID is required, and familiarity with at least one other donor is highly desirable. Candidates must also possess strong oral, written, analytical and organizational skills, and a working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and use of the internet as a research tool. Fluency in at least one other language is preferred.
