Purpose of post
Under the overall supervision of the ICTP Director, the Institute Advancement Officer will be responsible for the planning and implementation of a comprehensive fund-raising campaign for the Centre. This includes developing focused and integrated fund-raising approaches to various governmental and non-governmental organizations that are likely to support the campaign.

Main responsibilities
In close collaboration with the ICTP Director and senior staff, the incumbent will:
• Design a development plan for the ICTP with the main goal of launching a major fund-raising campaign in conjunction with the ICTP’s 50th anniversary. 
• Assist in the implementation of the plan to ensure success of the fund-raising campaign by developing fund-raising tactical plans that can secure the funds. 

• Travel, as instructed by the ICTP Director, to meet with key individual prospects and entities for the purpose of investigation, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and involvement. 

• Assist in developing projects to attract funding organizations and identify potential funding opportunities 
• Maintain in-depth familiarity with the Centre's programs and act as liaison between programs and external community to facilitate excellent relationships. 

• Liaise with the ICTP Public Information Office for profile-raising event. 
• Undertake any additional tasks as required by the ICTP Director to ensure the proper functioning of the Institute Advancement Office. 

Profile
• Advanced university degree (Master's Degree or equivalent) in natural or social science,?communications or other relevant field.
• Four to seven years of progressively responsible work experience in project management, public relations, communications and fund-raising. 
• Professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources, successfully soliciting significant donations).
• Proven experience in managing fund-raising campaigns. 
• Experience in building partnerships with private and public funding agencies. 
• Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within ICTP. 
• Excellent coordination, organization and planning skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Ability and competency to work within multiple cultures. 
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships. 
• Commitment to ICTP's mission. 
• Excellent knowledge of English. Good knowledge of French, Spanish, Italian and other languages is an asset.

Conditions of employment
This is an extra-budgetary position classified as a project appointment with an intended medium term period of employment. Although having staff member status and enjoying the same benefits, the incumbent will be considered an external applicant if later applying for a regular post. For this post, the annual remuneration will start at US$86,884 if there are no dependants and at US$93,080 if there are dependants, and is exempt from income tax. UN Pension plan and medical insurance are included.
