Located in London, TI-UK’s ‘Defence and Security Programme’ is a team of 10 full-time people plus 10 part-time senior experts. Our objective is to dramatically reduce corruption in defence and security organisations – armed forces, the police, and others. We work internationally to convince organisations like NATO, the UN and the African Union that they cannot ignore this issue. Nationally, we work with governments, armed forces, the police and defence companies to build understanding, improve their internal procedures and training. And we publish reports globally on which countries and companies are doing well and badly in tackling defence and security corruption. We work as part of the global TI movement.

We are now seeking to appoint a full-time fundraiser to take our work to greater scale.

The applicant’s main function is securing additional financial support from government donors, foundations, and individuals for our work.
We offer an excellent team spirit and an environment in which everybody contributes. No one arrived at the defence and security team knowing everything they needed to know – we are very much a learning organisation. Expect to learn and adapt constantly.

The candidate must be used to working in the context of continual innovation and change, designed to break new ground in the fight against corruption. S/he must be comfortable working in a start-up environment requiring extensive ‘self-starter’ skills with minimal bureaucratic safety nets or backstopping. Our office environment requires openness, collaboration and flexibility.

The job requires fundraising from government donors, foundations, and individuals for TI-DSP. The individual will identify, research, approach and negotiate support for core and programme activities from government donors, foundations, and individual donors globally; follow-up on good existing leads with a range of potential donors; develop and maintain new relationships with government donors, foundations, and individual donors; write compelling fundraising proposals, cases for support, donor communications; provide high quality stewardship to these donors; contribute to timely and high quality grant reporting; organise events for current and potential donors; and provide support to the TI-DSP Director as directed.

Knowledge, experience and skills:

• University degree, e.g. in Business Administration, Corporate Responsibility, Communication, Marketing or Public Relations;
• Track record of at least 3 years in fundraising with government donors and/or foundations;
• Knowledge of the defence and security sector, and of funding opportunities for work in (post-) conflict and fragile states is a distinct advantage;
• Ability and track record in developing and writing funding proposals (in English);
• Excellent communication, impeccable presentation and strong networking skills;
• International experience an asset;
• Complete fluency in written and spoken English is essential; other European languages are a definite asset.

Salary: Dependent on experience; around £34,000 p.a.
