Geophysicist - Unconventional

Job TitleGeophysicist - Unconventional
Position DescriptionSaudi Aramco is embarking on a program to develop its world-class unconventional resources and is seeking experienced professionals to join our Unconventional program. We have an immediate requirement for experienced Geophysicists who have experience in identifying and characterizing shale and tight gas reservoirs using seismic data. Saudi Aramco’s position as a world leading hydrocarbon finder and producer offers unique opportunities for Development Geologists to realize their full technical potential. Soon, Saudi Aramco will be known not just for conventional oil and gas production, but as a leader in full life cycle unconventional gas development. Consider the opportunity to join our team and help shape the future of key global unconventional resource development!
As a Geophysicist in an unconventional asset you will support the Exploration Geologist in identifying exploration areas for resource identification and maturation using geophysical tools. You will also support the operations team in selecting appropriate completion decisions (placement and orientation of fracs) and monitoring frac spreads with microseismic data.

You should be able to interpret seismic reflection data, including volumetric analysis, petrophysical aspects of seismic modeling and the use of probabilistic packages (preferably Petrel) to partner with development geologists in preparing drilling recommendations.

You will be expected to make recommendations on seismic acquisition programs, including the determination of seismic acquisition and/or reprocessing parameters that would improve prospecting ability and assess risk and reward.
Minimum RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Geophysics or a related science as appropriate to the required discipline. An advanced degree is preferred and will reduce prerequisite work experience stated below by one year for a master’s degree and two years for a Ph.D.

A minimum of 15 years of related experience within the oil/gas industry, with at least 5 years of this experience in unconventional hydrocarbon basins.

Other desirable skills include:

• Regional geological evaluation of unconventional plays.
• Structural characterization of naturally fractured reservoirs.
• Sequence stratigraphic analysis.
• Play and prospect generation and risk evaluation.
• Advanced seismic skills with attributes, AVD, inversion.
• Geophysical support for an unconventional play or development.
• Geochemistry, petroleum systems and basin modeling.
• Reservoir characterization in unconventional hydrocarbons plays (tight gas, shale gas, unconventional oil, and/or coal bed methane).
• Log analysis and interpretation in unconventional reservoir.
• Strong fundamental interpretation geophysical skill set, including well to seismic correlation, seismic mapping, velocity model building, depth conversion, 3D visualization, reservoir properties from seismic (RPFS) work flow, AVO analysis, acoustic and elastic inversion and survey design.
• A strong geophysical workstation skill.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate 3D seismic, geological/well data, and production data to characterize reservoirs and reduce uncertainties.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesYou will be required to perform the following:

• Apply technical geophysical tools to assist in prospect creation, evaluation, and maturation for unconventional resources (shale gas, liquids and tight gas).
• Use seismic interpretation, analysis, modeling, petrophysical tools and probabilistic packages (preferably Petrel) to partner with development geologists in preparing drill recommendations.
• Understand strengths and weaknesses of different packages. Apply tools in fit for purpose fashion.
• Determine seismic acquisition and/or reprocessing parameters that would improve prospecting ability and assess risk and reward.
• Keep abreast of emerging technologies.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients and intercompany experts to leverage their talents.
About UsSaudi Aramco’s Exploration & Producing (E&P) business line oversees the world’s largest reserves of conventional crude oil, and the fourth-largest reserves of natural gas. The Company’s reserves portfolio include Ghawar, the world’s largest onshore oil field, and Safaniya, the largest offshore field. Company geologists are actively seeking additional reserves in many areas of the Kingdom, offshore in the Gulf and the Red Sea and onshore in the deserts and mountains. Petroleum engineers and earth scientists in E&P work with cutting-edge technology to manage and produce these reserves, including 3D visualization, reservoir simulation and remote geosteering of multilateral wells. The Company’s Exploration and Petroleum Engineering Center, or EXPEC, is home to one of the industry’s most powerful computer centers. Research and development into subsurface upstream technology is conducted at the EXPEC Advanced Research Center. For more than two decades in a row, Saudi Aramco has been ranked the No. 1 oil company in the world by Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the men and women of Exploration & Producing.
