Policy Officer Central America APRODEV


APRODEV has a vacancy for a Policy Officer for Central America to work on EU policies. 
Purpose of the position
APRODEV is seeking a dynamic Policy Officer whose main focus will be to ensure that European Union policies regarding Central America are oriented towards poverty and inequality eradication, sustainable development, fulfilment of fundamental rights and the strengthening of civil society.
Tasks and responsibilities
  • To analyse EU policies towards Central America from a sustainable development perspective.
  • To serve APRODEV’s Central America Working Group in their efforts to influence EU policies towards Central America, including carrying out this Group’s lobbying activities directed at EU institutions.
  • To coordinate advocacy with NGO coalitions in Brussels and with relevant partners and local organisations in Central America.
  • To provide leadership within APRODEV and with partner organisations to ensure joint strategies are identified to most effectively promote sustainable development oriented policies.
Requirements
The successful candidate will:
  • Demonstrate strategic vision as well as an ability to coordinate and lead effective practical action.
  • Have experience of advocacy work in the development context, including advocacy strategy development and working with coalitions and networks (North and South).
  • Have lobbying experience, preferably directly within the context of EU and its institutions.
  • Combine this advocacy and lobbying experience with knowledge of the Central American context, development and economic policies.
  • Bring innovative approaches to networking and co-ordination among APRODEV members and with partner agencies in Central America.
  • Be able to demonstrate research and writing skills.
  • Be fluent in Spanish and English.
The Policy Officer is appointed on a one year renewable contract, and is based in Brussels. The position includes travels to Central America. Salary according to NGO standards in Brussels.
Starting date: January 2013.
