The Faculty of Arts is distinguished by its student-centred and research-inspired approaches to teaching and learning. Staff and students work together to ask questions about socially complex problems and reflect on the skills and knowledge the need to understand the world, past and present.
The Sociology Department at Macquarie has a lively program of teaching and research that harnesses theoretical and applied strengths of the discipline. We are seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer with an excellent record in teaching and research in political sociology, social policy and social research methods (including quantitative). The successful applicant will be required to:
  • Play a leading role in the development of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching in social research methods (including quantitative methods)
  • Make major contributions to undergraduate teaching and research in social policy and political sociology
  • Contribute to the Department's research profile (including successful competitive grants)
  • Successfully collaborate in research projects and mentor junior staff with their research
  • Play a senior administrative role in the department and Faculty as required
Selection CriteriaTo be considered for this position applications must respond to the selection criteria below and attach as a separate document in the application process.
  • Hold a Phd in Sociology or in a cognate discipline
  • Demonstrated contribution to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in political sociology, social policy and methods
  • Demonstrate an outstanding track record in research and the production of high quality publications
  • Demonstrated record of attracting research funding
  • A track record in mentoring junior staff and in successful research and teaching collaborations
Salary Package:  from $104,146 - $119,769 p.a. (Level C), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
