Background
Pure Water for the World works in remote and underserved regions of developing countries that lack sustainable clean, safe drinking water. Our objective is to improve the lives of those in need, especially the lives of the children, who are especially vulnerable to water borne diseases. Our projects provide safe water, hygiene education, and sanitation to families and schools. To date, our focus in terms of technology has been household water treatment, mostly with biosand filters. We also place great emphasis on our high-quality, participatory training program. We have also started a monitoring program with a Mobile Training Unit that does interventions in previously served communities.

PWW has been working in the municipality of Trojes since 2009, typically serving about 10 communities per year with a field staff of about 6. We would like to scale up somewhat in the future and also are committed to continuously improving the quality of our work. For these reasons, PWW is seeking a Trojes Program Supervisor to coordinate and manage all aspects of PWW’s work in Trojes.

On most days, our field staff are scattered across the countryside, working alone or in pairs. That means they must work independently, which is very different from the typical situation in which the boss is present and can exercise direct control. PWW needs our staff to do their best regardless of whether the boss is watching, because usually s/he will not be. We must encourage and cultivate our staff’s motivation, dedication to our cause, analytical skills, problem-solving ability, initiative, knowledge, and so on. That takes a special kind of supervisor.

Key areas of responsibility:

Supervise all aspects of PWW’s project implementation in Trojes:
? Periodically review PWW’s methodology and make improvements where possible; facilitate field staff doing the same.
? Coordinate implementation planning with PWW leadership: set priorities, determine scope and budget, and establish schedule for implementation.
? Proactively ensure ample communication between Trojes, Tegucigalpa, and U.S. offices.
? Identify necessary tasks with field staff and make sure all are assigned.
? Supervise field staff’s work, such as informational meetings, training sessions, filter installation and check-ups, latrine installation, deworming campaigns, etc. Routinely accompany and assist staff in the field to better understand their work and how things are going.
? Track progress and facilitate staff’s reflecting on their work and finding ways to stay on track, amplify successes, and solve problems
? Organize and supervise office management tasks, such as maintenance of vehicles, ordering materials and supplies, cleaning, etc.
? Provide frequent, constructive feedback to field staff
? Assure that field staff receive necessary training and continuing education
? Keep accurate records and prepare reports, and train staff to participate to the extent possible
? Assist the Country Director and Project Coordinator in making staffing decisions
? Assist the Country Director and Project Coordinator as needed with grant applications
? Assist the Country Director and Project Coordinator as needed to carry out donor visits
? Other duties as assigned
Preferred Characteristics, Skills, and Qualifications
? Experience and excellence in leadership, project management, and supervision in situations where staff work independently

? Good written and oral communication skills
