The Research, Policy & Practice Manager will lead the way capturing learning & evidence from our work on Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL) & its links to nutrition, & ensuring that it is used effectively to improve our programme quality & influence our policy & advocacy work. You will play a critical role in supporting the roll-out & scale-up of our signature programme on FSL, as well as providing key support to existing & new projects . You will support Save the Children’s policy & advocacy strategy in the area of food security & livelihoods to achieve lasting policy & practice change for mother & children, particularly in preventing chronic malnutrition. & will work in close support of existing policy & campaigning work taking place under the Everyone Campaign.

Specifically, you will:
Synthese & disseminate existing knowledge, research & learning
• develop & maintain an effective database of action research, monitoring & evaluation data
• ensure that useful learning is accessed by FSL & nutrition staff across the organization
• provide support, advice, & guidance to the technical advisers to enable them to strengthen their ability to analyse policy & use research influence effectively •develop clear internal guidelines, policies & position papers to support technical staff in applying best practice & learning from our programmes in their work

Design & oversee new research:
• develop & maintain a database of competent consultants in the field of FSL& nutrition
• develop ToRs for consultancies as needed
• provide strong technical oversight & management of action research & study designs, ensuring that they will deliver the outputs required for different audiences

Develop strategic partnerships with research & policy partners:
• facilitate the partners’ selection process for Signature program of both action research partner & implementing partners
• collaborate & strengthen partnerships with NGOs, Government & relevant private organizations, networks & other actors
• maintain & strengthen partnerships
• communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences, stakeholders, producing reports to build our reputation in the sector.

Advocacy & campaigns:
• develop & support the implementation of an FSL communications & advocacy strategy in particular in support of the Signature Programme & Everyone Campaign goals
• represent Save the Children externally & ensure the effective inclusion of our key messages in various advocacy fora.
• develop powerful & credible policy papers, briefings & other products
• maintain an overview of donor & government policies related to FSL

Essential skills & experience:
• At least 3 years experience in planning, implementing & disseminating research related to international development issues.
• An academic qualification at post graduate level or equivalent experience on issues directly related to food security, livelihoods & nutrition or relevant field of international development.
• Highly developed analytical writing skills & ability to rapidly absorb new areas of work in order to write policy briefs, booklets & other documents that include technical topics (e.g. at level for producing evidence to government decision-makers, or writing a feature article to publication st&ard).
• Demonstrable wide range of strong communications skills (both written & verbal) at a level appropriate for high level external representation (lobbying, presentations) & ability to tailor communications to a wide range of different audiences.
• Ability to analyse complex data (scientific, technical) & to summarise & communicate this in ways that are accessible to a range of audiences & cultures.
• Proven experience of developing advocacy recommendations tailored to target audiences using evidence from programmes & research. This should include a track record of advocacy success for which you were demonstrably responsible.
• Proven sound strategic thinking & planning skills, including ability to think creatively & be innovative, set priorities, manage work plans & evaluate progress.
• Experience working effectively in coalitions/networks of civil society organizations, NGOs or research groups, particularly in support of shared advocacy goals.
• Good underst&ing of the external advocacy environment in Bangladesh & ability to assess trends & developments likely to affect campaigning.
• Experience of working on FSL &/or nutrition programmes & a sound underst&ing of key technical concepts & debates in that field, particularly related to social protection, nutrition-sensitive livelihoods, market-based approaches, building resilience to shocks, & tackling chronic malnutrition.
• Demonstrable ability to take initiative, work independently & to tight deadlines & commitment to team working & underst&ing of how to contribute in a team environment
• Ability to operate within a predominantly administratively self-servicing environment & working within budget constraints.
