The Technology Services group is the software services and delivery group within the Global Information Systems organization, providing program and project management, software development, and IT vendor management for all of PATH's software initiatives.
The Senior Database Developer in the Technology Services group is a key member of this small team that supports PATH's data and reporting systems and mission-driven project teams.  A key focus for this position will be maturing PATH’s data and reporting capabilities by introducing simple, elegant and supportable data solutions. The role requires an ability to work as part of a team on structured projects as well as independently, proactively identifying necessary tasks to meet stated objectives. We are looking for candidates with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners and the ability to document design plans. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Actively participate in problem analysis and understanding user expectations of a solution
  • Actively participate in transactional system analysis to influence upstream data quality factors
  • Provide right-sized solution options that include design considerations, implications and trade-offs
  • Design, develop and sustain reporting solutions including managed reports, unmanaged spreadsheets, dashboards and visualization tools
  • Participate in design, development and sustainment of data sources including:  transactional and operational data stores, Master Data, Enterprise Data Warehouse, EDW data model, ETL and cubes
  • Design, develop and maintain implementation patterns that enable secure and efficient data consumption by users or reports
  • Set standards for SQL security and authentication and work with team members to migrate legacy systems to new standards
  • Work with quality assurance team members to develop and execute report validation approaches
  • Work with customers, stakeholders and team members to assist in prioritization and estimation of anticipated work
  • Implement appropriate change control processes
  • Mentor team members on SQL development best practices
  • Participate in enterprise roadmap planning activities
Required Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft technology environments including the following:  Windows Server, NTLM, ASP.NET, SQL Server 2005/2008, SSRS 2005/2008, SSIS 2005/2008, SSAS 2005/2008
  • Familiarity with PowerPivot, Tableau and emerging visualization technologies
  • Advanced knowledge of Visual Studio 2008 BIDS
  • Advanced implementation experience of on-premise database development technologies, patterns and practices
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server administration including security, backup and maintenance jobs, and performance troubleshooting
  • Ability to plan, document and manage deliverables for multiple efforts and deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree plus a minimum five years of experience developing elegant data access, reporting and visualization solutions preferred. Knowledge of and experience with tracking work through Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010 and SharePoint 2010. Experience working for an international organization facing low-bandwidth challenges is preferred
