As the Commission's in-house science service, the mission of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) is to provide EU policies with independent, evidence-based scientific and technical support throughout the whole policy cycle. Being a Directorate-General of the European Commission, the JRC functions both as the in-house science service of the Commission and as a reference centre for science and technology for the Union. We propose
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is looking for a contract agent group function III to work as communication assistant at the Institute for Transuranium Elements (JRC-ITU), located in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The successful candidate will work within the JRC's external communication unit and will be based at JRC-ITU (Karlsruhe, Germany). S/he will be the "Communication assistant" attached to the Communication officer in this Institute. S/he will support the work of the external communication unit in this Institute, keeping an eye on potential news to feed into the JRC's overall communication strategy and planner and developing communication-related activities and products.
The assistant will deal with the organisation of events/meetings/conferences and will have to team up with the other colleagues of the administrative offices, with the scientists involved in the work and other external colleagues in Brussels and from the other Directorates.
The successful applicant will be dealing with topics related to the study of technological and medical applications of radionuclides/actinides, to the implementation of safeguards, safety and security of the nuclear fuel cycle, and to the impact of the radioactivity in the environment.
The JRC is a highly dynamic scientific DG, working on a vast array of scientific issues directly linked to the EU policy needs, such as: health and consumer protection, food security, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change, safety and security and ICT. We look for
The candidate must be on a valid EPSO reserve list for Function Group III auxiliary contract staff. Candidates who have already worked within the Commission for three years as auxiliary contract staff members are NOT eligible.
We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated and committed colleague. S/he should be dedicated and a flexible team player with a good knowledge of the European Union and research and innovation policy. Personal interest on science is also an asset.
S/he should have excellent communication skills and a solid experience in the field of communications. The post will particularly suit a candidate who is able to demonstrate initiative and who gains satisfaction from seeing high-quality communication products through from conception to delivery.
S/he must have an excellent level of German and English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
S/he is a good communicator, with a thorough experience in addressing large and mixed audiences. A high sense of responsibility and a flexible attitude in carrying out tasks outside the job description are essential assets while often working under pressure.
