What is IAF?

The International Astronautical Federation is a worldwide federation of organisations active in the space field. It is responsible for the premier annual global space conference, the International Astronautical Congress. Following its theme “A space-faring world cooperating for the benefit of humanity", the Federation advances the knowledge about space and the development and application of space assets for the benefit of humanity. It maintains a worldwide network of experts in the development and utilisation of space. It remains to this day the only international federation for the space community that addresses all aspects of space. The International Astronautical Federation is now the world’s leading space advocacy organisation with 246 members in 62 countries including all leading agencies, space companies, professional societies, associations of industry and R&D institutes worldwide. IAF organises the largest space-related congress every year in a different location.

Where are we?

The IAF Secretariat is based in Paris (15th), France, and is responsible for the coordination of the IAF activities. It is the executive body of the organisation, supporting the IAF members, the IAF experts and volunteers.

  • Coordinate the implementation of IAF external communication (press releases, bi-monthly newsletter, IAF website, social media);
  • Contribute to the elaboration of an IAF Communication Strategy (communication plan, budget, etc.;
  • Edit and coordinate the production of IAF and IAC publications (Call for Papers, Final Programmes, etc.);
  • Develop relations with media representatives and expand network;
  • Produce content for website and publications, official statements, speeches, presentations, etc.;
  • Support sponsorship activities for IAF events.

Candidate profile:

  • University degree in communication or journalism;
  • 2 - 5 years work experience in the communication field;
  • Proven experience with website editing, social media and traditional media handling, and writing content;
  • Excellent English language skills (native speaking is an asset);
  • Experience in project management (budgeting, resources management, planning).

Key competences:

  • Strong writing and editorial skills;
  • Basic knowledge in video editing;
  • Excellent IT proficiency (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MySQL Databases);
  • Knowledge and experience with InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is an asset;
  • Languages: English (excellent oral and written skills/native) + any IAF official language is an asset;
  • Proven ability to work in team;
  • Proven ability to manage contracts with suppliers;
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and manage multiple projects and processes while adhering to strict deadlines;
  • Very good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relations in a multicultural environment with a range of actors including very senior level officials;
  • Commitment to achieve results in a timely way and to high standards;
  • Capacity and willingness to learn and share knowledge;
  • Ability to analyse problems, propose solutions, innovate and implement new initiatives;
  • Open to work in an international environment;
  • Enthusiasm and interest for space activities is an asset.
