Inter-American Development Bank Corporate Governance


The Inter-American Development Bank, established in 1959, is the oldest regional multilateral development bank with over $92 billion in assets as of December 2012.
The Office of Risk Management (RMG) is seeking a talented and experienced professional to support the implementation of industry best practices in terms of corporate governance throughout the Bank’s lending process in private sector and non-sovereign guaranteed operations with a primary focus on Structured and Corporate Finance and Opportunities for the Majority Initiative operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate’s main responsibilities will be, among others:
  • To review industry best practices and lead the design of Corporate Governance (CG) appraisal and supervision standards for the Bank’s lending operations to NSG borrowers, which include private sector entities.
  • To lead the adoption of CG appraisal and supervision standards in respect of NSG borrowers. This includes the development of guidelines and tools to facilitate the adoption of the standards and regular monitoring of implementation.
  • To provide training and guidance to investment and portfolio management officers to ensure effective and timely adoption of CG guidelines and standards in respect of NSG borrowers, and provide for knowledge transfer throughout the different areas involved.
  • To lead the design of value-added activities including action plans on CG for private sector and NSG borrowers, and possible development of a grant funding mechanism to support such activities.
  • Coordination of interaction with other Development Finance Institutions in areas related to development of new standards, tools and training material.
  • Coordination with CG specialists in the IDB Group (MIF and IIC).
  • To provide support to the Bank’s external activities in the area of corporate governance to promote the adoption of CG best practices in Latin America and the Caribbean.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master's degree in finance, business administration, or law degree.
Experience: Between 5 and 10 years of experience in corporate governance (preferably with an international financial institution active in Latin America and the Caribbean).
Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish is required. Working knowledge of Portuguese is a plus.

Payment and Conditions of Employment
The work will be carried out at Bank headquarters in Washington D.C. Remuneration will be determined in accordance with Bank regulations and criteria. If a candidate is not a citizen or resident of the United States, the Bank will apply for a G-IV visa from the consulate of the United States in the candidate's country of origin. If a candidate cannot obtain a visa to work at the IDB the contractual offer will be rescinded.
