The Faculty of Geosciences, Geography and Astronomy of the University of Vienna announces the position of a Full Professor of Geoecology

As stated in its development plan (http://rektorat.univie.ac.at/?id=6172) the University of Vienna aims to strengthen its position as a major research-oriented university. Key elements of this strategy include the provision of an attractive range of research-based study programmes, support for furthering the work of junior academic colleagues, and high-calibre professorial appointments.

full time, permanent position under private law) to fill as soon as possible. The University of Vienna intends to increase the number of women on its faculty, particularly in high-level positions, and therefore specifically invites applications by women. Among equally qualified applicants women will receive preferential consideration.

In research, the candidate's focus should cover the field of Geoecology and Geosystems, whereby particular strengths are expected. The collaboration with the transdisciplinary faculty focus on "Environment - Society - Risk" is obligatory.

The successful candidate is expected to teach courses mainly in Geoecelogy and in parts of Physical Geography. She or he should teach both, basic courses as well as in-depth and specialized research oriented courses for the Bachelor and Master students (Geography) and the teaching education curriculum (Geography and Economic Geography).
Contributions to the inter-facultary English master programme "Environmental Sciences", courses for and the engaged supervision of PhD students are expected. An active contribution in the academic self-administration is assumed. The successful candidate will head a fully equipped research and teaching unit and we expect to the candidate to lead the well-equipped laboratory for physical geography.

Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:
- PhD and post-doctoral experience at a university or other research institution
(Austrian or equivalent international academic degree in the relevant field)
- Outstanding research and publication record, with an excellent reputation as an active member in the international academic community and embedded within research network Habilitation (venia docendi) or equivalent international qualification in the relevant field is desirable
- Experience in designing, procuring and directing major research projects, and willingness and proved ability to assume the responsibility of team leadership
- Experience in university self-administration
- Experience in university teaching, and willingness and ability to teach at all curricular levels (Bachelor, Master, teaching education, PhD level), to supervise theses, and to further the work of junior academic colleagues
The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in Bachelor programmes and participation in committees

- List of publications (incl. a summary of the number of publications in the categories "refereed scientific journal", "monograph", "book contribution", "proceeding", "miscellaneous reports" and a list including a full bibliography order by these categories) together with
a) specification of five key publications judged by the applicant to be particularly relevant to the advertised professorship together with an explanation of their relevance
b) provision of these five publications either in PDF format (email attachments or through URLs of downloadable files) or as printed copies
c) information on bibliometric indices extracted from SCOPUS, Web of Sciences and Google Scholar (g-, h- and m-index, total citations since 2006, average citations of each publication without self-citations)
- List of talks given, including detailed information on invited plenaries at international conferences
- Brief description (max. 2 pages) of current research interests and research plans for the immediate future
- List of projects supported by third-party funds (incl. funding agency, funding period, own budget in proportion to total sum, role within the project)
- Information on integration in national and international research networks (e.g. memberships in editorial boards; reviewer for scientific journals, research institutions, private companies; contribution to scientific associations)
- Short survey of previous academic teaching and list of supervised PhD theses

University professors will be classified according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff into the salary group A1. The salary will be individually negotiated under consideration of the previous career development and in case of an appointment from abroad of the different tax situation.
