Violence is one of the biggest obstacles to achieving a world without poverty. Nearly 2/3 of the world’s poorest people live in countries severely affected by violence, conflict and state fragility. Violence is the leading cause of death among women aged between 15 and 44. Christian Aid believes this is unacceptable. We also believe it can change. We need you to help us change it.
This is an exciting opportunity to help Christian Aid increase our impact for women and men affected by violence. We have a long track record working on issues of violence and peace. From Afghanistan to Sudan, from the Middle East to Colombia, our partners support communities affected by armed conflict, and seek to tackle the root causes. Around the world, we work to challenge sexual and gender-based violence, to promote accountability and justice, and to build peaceful alternatives to violence. Our new strategy, Partnership for Change, brings all these strands together into a new priority for the organisation – Tackling Violence, Building Peace.
You will provide advice and support to Christian Aid staff teams and partners across Africa, Asia and Latin America, working with them to turn the strategy into reality. You’ll enable them to learn from their own experience, from other Christian Aid programmes and partners, and from good practices in the global development, humanitarian and peacebuilding communities. You’ll help them strengthen their programme and policy work to maximise their impact on violence and peace.
You’ll ensure that programme learning feeds into a deeper organisational understanding, articulating Christian Aid’s distinctive contribution to tackling violence and building peace, and supporting credible and effective international advocacy on key issues.
You’ll have the technical knowledge, networks and credibility to provide relevant, useful support on issues of violence and peace to programmes and partners. You’ll also bring excellent facilitation skills and the ability to discuss challenging issues sensitively and encourage innovative and creative responses. Most important will be your ability to build strong relationships across the organisation, fostering a shared commitment to meeting the challenge we have set ourselves of achieving real differences in the lives women and men affected by violence and conflict.
