Job Summary 
The main aim of SmartEN ITN is to create a translational training network, aiming at implementing a multidisciplinary research and training programme in the field of smart management for sustainable human environment. The training programme will focus its activities on research and training in the disciplines of Wireless Sensor Networks, Sensor Signal Processing, Non-Destructive Evaluation and Smart Proactive Management. 
In order to facilitate integration between the various disciplines, four areas of multi-disciplinary research programmes have been defined. These include Smart Proactive Management of: Structural Systems; Heritage and Infrastructure; Transport Infrastructure Systems and Urban Microclimate. 

The Marie Curie Fellow will focus on the development of methods for analysing transport infrastructure networks supported through the availability of inspection and structural health monitoring data in key nodes, such as bridges, tunnels etc. The objective is to develop network-informed performance measures for selected asset types, to enable the integration of inspection/monitoring processes into this process and to demonstrate the applicability of the developed methodology through case studies. 

The Fellow will have the opportunity to interact with many of the other researchers on the programme through the multi-disciplinary project structure, the secondments and the various SmartEN network level activities.

The duration of the job is 12 months. The Marie Curie Fellow will be hosted by the University of Surrey, located in Guildford, UK. A competitive salary will be offered of up to £36,230 per annum (employer and employee contributions will be deducted from this amount).

The applicant must, at the time of recruitment (i) be in possession of a doctoral degree in the fields of Civil/Transportation Engineering or Applied Mathematics, independently of the time taken to acquire it, or (ii) have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience, including the period of research training, after obtaining the degree which formally allowed them to embark on a doctorate in the country in which the degree/diploma was obtained or in the host country (irrespective of whether or not a doctorate was envisaged). 

The working language will be English. Therefore, excellent knowledge of the English language (spoken and written) is a requirement. 

Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in the hosting country (i.e. UK) for more than 12 months in the last 3 years. More details concerning eligibility can be found in relevant EC documents (People WorkProgramme).
