FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network: (ITN) FigtingDrugFailure http://www.fightingdrugfailure.net
University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering
Project title:
Network perturbations in livers with genetic defects of cholesterol synthesis.

Project outline: The goal of this 6-month project is to apply the established mathematical model of the hepatic metabolism, developed in the group of Prof. A. Belic at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering http://msc.fe.uni-lj.si/, to predict the network perturbations if one of the genes of cholesterol synthesis (Cyp51) is deleted. This would be verified by the existing and new experimental data from the wet-laboratory of Prof. D. Rozman at the Faculty of Medicine, http://cfgbc.mf.uni-lj.si, where they are characterizing the liver conditional knockout of Cyp51. The available experimental data from the knockout mice include blood lipid parameters, gene expression values determined by qPCR and/or microarray analysis, basic histopathology and immunohistochemistry, etc. The predictions from the modelling would be applied to propose further experiments – for example, which genes or other entities should we characterize to better understand the complex phenotype of the liver conditional Cyp51 knockout.
Desirable Candidate Profile: Early-stage post-doc with biomedical or mathematical background and hands-on expertise in mathematical modelling of biological systems.
EU eligibility requirements: Experienced researcher (ER)
Experienced researchers (ER) as defined within the FP7 framework must, at the time of recruitment:
  • be in possession of a doctoral degree, independently of the time taken to acquire it, or (ii) have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. Full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him or her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided.
The research experience of an experienced researcher recruited for initial training may not exceed 5 years at the time of the appointment.
At the time of recruitment the researcher must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the beneficiary (Slovenia) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment.
Deadline: November 20, 2012.
Timeline: The selected candidate is expected to start between January 1st 2013 and April 1st 2013, at the latest.
Necessary documents to be submitted for this ER post application: CV and references, cover letter highlighting work experience with relevance to the project, PhD and other graduate and undergraduate degree documentation, documentation of proficiency in English language (if not an English speaking university graduate).
Remuneration: This position offers a very attractive remuneration package, including mobility allowance and travel allowance, according to the EU Marie Curie guidelines for ER.
