Background to the Organization

Established in 1952 as the Customs Co-operation Council, the World Customs Organization (WCO) is an independent intergovernmental organization whose mission is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Customs administrations. As part of its activities in the area of combating counterfeiting and piracy, the WCO has developed a new tool (IPM, which stands for Interface Public-Members: http://ipmpromo.wcoomdpublications.org/).

Job description

Project Co-ordinator in the Secretariat of the Organization.
Location: Brussels
Duration: 12 months, renewable.
Salary: based on background and experience.

Duties

In order to facilitate the use of IPM by its Members, the WCO is seeking a Project Co-ordinator whose main task will be to support the roll-out of IPM in Customs administrations.
The following key functions are to be performed:
  • Contacting Customs administrations in order to invite them to join the IPM programme;
  • Developing educational material for Customs officers;
  • Training Customs officers to use IPM (conducting web conferences, Level 1 support, etc.);
  • Monitoring the use of IPM by Customs officers;
  • Interacting with the in-house technical team to establish the technical arrangements for connection;
  • Conducting surveys to collect feedback on the use of IPM;
  • Level 1 support (integrating IP addresses and dealing with forgotten passwords).
The Project Co-ordinator may also be required:
  • to prepare, organize and follow up on WCO meetings and events;
  • to participate, in close collaboration with the WCO’s experts and the Customs administrations’ experts, in the preparation of compendiums of anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy legislation;
  • to travel to Customs administrations as part of IPM promotional missions.

Candidate profile

  • University degree;
  • Some experience desirable;
  • Well groomed, with good interpersonal skills;
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and take initiatives;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and multitasking environment;
  • Bilingual English-French. Other languages an advantage;
  • Proficiency in the use of IT tools (Word, Excel).
