Duties and Responsibilities
The Sustainability Consortium (TSC), an affiliate of the Global Institute of Sustainability and a joint venture between Arizona State University and the University of Arkansas, is looking for a Research Associate to work with other researchers and corporate, NGO, government, and academic stakeholders to develop knowledge products concerning the sustainability of consumer products. The world’s largest retailers and manufacturers are using these products to drive product and supply chain innovation around sustainability.
The role of the Research Associate position is to provide expertise to the research team regarding toxicity, hazard and risk assessment and other issues surrounding the manufacture and use of chemically intensive consumer products. This individual will also develop aspects of TSC Knowledge Products regarding these products and for other products with chemical-based human health implications as well as serve as the technical lead for additional efforts in the Home & Personal Care sector.
Responsibilities include:
-Identify and draft environmental and social impact criteria for products involving chemicals and chemical processing;
-Work with Working Group Directors to drive membership consensus around the criteria and their measurement and reporting requirements;
-Incorporate and/or harmonize work with existing standards and regulations;
-Harmonize/integrate efforts with other research teams in TSC;
-Liaise with domestic and international governmental and non-governmental entities, industry groups and academic institutions as necessary;
-Regularly communicate project status and progress against timelines to relevant stakeholders;
-Travel (15-20% time) for face to face meetings;
-Other duties as assigned.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, toxicology, epidemiology, environmental science, or a related field and with related industry or research experience (formulation, risk assessment, toxicology); OR, Bachelor’s degree with two years of related industry experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Expertise in one or more areas related to chemical applications in consumer products.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in: environmental and/or corporate sustainability; life cycle assessment; risk assessment; hazard assessments.
Demonstrated knowledge of: chemical manufacturing and formulation development; impacts of chemicals on human health.
