Experimental Safety Scientist - Wyandotte, Michigan

Today, our team at the Experimental Safety Laboratory in Wyandotte Michigan is working to enhance the safety of our colleagues with hazard evaluation of our manufacturing process and products. We are currently looking for an Experimental Safety Scientist.

The Experimental Safety Laboratory services BASF facilities throughout the North America region. The Experimental Safety Scientist is involved in many challenging safety projects and is responsible for supporting the activities of our Lab, providing consulting and experimental testing for relief device sizing, reaction characterization, dust and static hazards evaluation, dispersion modeling, as well as incident investigation support. As needs and opportunity arise, this professional may also engage in pilot scale developmental activities (mini-plant to 2000-gallon scale) supporting production, research or technical service, or in computer-aided simulation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
  1. Good team player with excellent communication skills
  2. PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with 4 years experience, BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
  3. Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis of complex data sets
  4. Production experience in PSM facility is desired
  5. Demonstrated competency in at least of the following (calorimeters): Reactive System Screening Tool (RSST), Automated Pressure Tracking Adiabatic Calorimeter (APTAC), Venting Sizing Package (VSP), Differential Scanning Colorimers (DSC's), and Reaction Calorimeters (RC1)
  6. Proficiency in PHAST modeling and Aspen modeling desired
  7. Familar with dust testing methods: 20-L dust explosion apparatus, Hartman Tube, Mike 3 is desired
  8. Experienced in laboratory data acquisition system
