Senior Advisor Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
(International contract)
Based in Jakarta, Indonesia

SNV is a not-for-profit international development organisation, funded from public and private sources. SNV was founded in the Netherlands in 1965 and currently works in 36 countries world-wide. SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water, sanitation and hygiene, and REDD+.
In order to develop a viable WASH programme in Indonesia, SNV is now seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the post of Senior Advisor to oversee programme development, provide content leadership to a team of SNV WASH advisors, and lead fundraising for new SNV WASH projects.
Responsibilities
  • Lead SNV-Indonesia WASH resource mobilisation and strategic partnership development activities
  • Provide overall technical leadership to develop a viable WASH programme that will have impact; ensure quality of advisory delivery by team and contractors; ensure sound integration of governance and gender in all projects
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an urban sanitation programme in West Sumatra and planned rural sanitation programme in Lampung Province
  • Administer contract requirements and compliance with donor regulations including oversight on programme finances and reporting, monitor indicators and evaluate results
  • Ensure positive and constructive donor and stakeholder relations
  • Provide advisory services to key clients and coaching to team members
  • Provide content leadership to the SNV Indonesia WASH team, ensuring coherence with regional and corporate WASH programme frameworks, and strengthen SNV WASH knowledge base in Asia.
Candidate profile
  • Master’s degree in a field related to water, sanitation and hygiene
  • Minimum 7 years of proven track record in WASH, especially sanitation (rural and small towns) at international level in developing countries, preferably in Southeast Asia. An understanding of the Indonesian context would be an advantage.
  • Up to date knowledge and experience with community-led approaches to sanitation, and pro-poor sector development in WASH
  • Strong knowledge and experience in policy, planning and management issues
  • Experience in advisory and capacity development services, including institutional development
  • Knowledge and experience with market-based approaches in WASH, and sanitation as a business.
  • Track record in partnership building and resource mobilization
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Entrepreneurial skills and attitude, as well as commitment to work for clients and in remote areas.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written
Information on duty station
Name: Jakarta – capital of Indonesia. Duty station will be Jakarta with frequent travel to other provinces of Indonesia.
Health services: There are several international standard healthcare facilities in Jakarta. Singapore is a 1.5 hour flight away and provides broader options.
Educational facilities: There are international schooling systems up to IB level in English and French in Jakarta.
Security situation: The security situation in Indonesia is generally good through most of the country however caution should be excercised.
Accessibility: Daily flights.
Contract duration: 2 years
