U.S. Embassy in Pretoria Electrician

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Electrician in the General Services Office (GSO).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required:
NOTE:  ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM. 

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED
 1.     
Education:  Completion of secondary education to Grade 12.  Completion of 3 year electrical apprenticeship program that produces a qualified Journeyman
                    Electrician with the certificate is required.
2.      Experience
      -  
Three years of progressively responsible experience in maintaining typical electrical systems and equipment found in residential and
          office buildings and trouble-shooting experience in control circuits for HVAC systems, alarm systems, and intercom systems is required.
3.      Language:
      
-          English level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required.  (This will be tested).
      
-          Level III (good working knowledge) in another local South African language is required.4.      Knowledge:
      
-          Knowledge of local laws and regulations governing the electrical trade is required.
      
-          Knowledge of the composition, operation and installation of various equipment and systems is required.5.      Skills and Abilities: 
      
-          Ability to safely use all hand and power tools associated with the electrical trade is required.
      
-          Ability to use tact and courteousness when dealing with embassy staff, colleges, vendors and others whom they come in contact with during the
            discharge of their duties is required.
      
-          Must possess a valid South African driver’s license Code 8 (EB).

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:
The incumbent will trouble shoot, diagnose, repair/replace and perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all electrical systems and appliances found in residential and office buildings.  The incumbent must have the ability to make repairs to gate and garage electric motors, intercom systems, remote push buttons and domestic security alarm systems.  Other duties and tasks as assigned.
