Research Specialist, Operations Research Study, Oxytocin in Uniject, PRISM2 project, Philippines


PRISM2 is seeking a consultant to provide technical and research support for the proposed research study. The consultant will work closely with project team members based in Manila Philippines and Seattle, WA USA to provide technical support to the study, and will be responsible for implementing the technical aspects of the study in close collaboration with the project team. The research consultant will provide technical assistance in-country directly and determine the need for additional technical assistance. Working closely with team members, the consultant will coordinate research activities with stakeholders, including coordinating research efforts with the research partner, and will ensure that successes are documented.
1.     Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the PRISM2 project and the PATH Senior Newborn Maternal and Child Health Specialist, the consultant will:
  • Provide technical support in-country to the study evaluating the use of oxytocin in Uniject in health facilities in selected districts of the Philippines.
  • Synthesize data at the national level to inform the project and to provide inputs to the project team on what works in-country and what does not.
  • Work closely with the project team to develop and initiate strategies to achieve study objectives.
  • Identify, in detail, Philippines’ government requirements and processes for conducting acceptability and feasibility studies.
  • Assist the project team in the development of a study protocol, including design, populations, sampling, data collection methods and tools, consent documents, etc., and analysis.
  • Assist with ensuring that human subjects protection requirements of in-country internal review boards are met.
  • Assist the PRISM2 project team develop a scope of work for the Request for Proposal for a clinical research organization for study implementation, data collection, and management.
  • Assist in identifying appropriate experts at partner/collaborating organizations to provide assistance for the implementation of the study.
  • Provide technical assistance for training to country colleagues for implementation of the proposed intervention, including development of training tools and methodologies.
  • Contribute to development of research reports and peer-reviewed publications.
Required Skills
1.     Desired Skills and Experience
  • A medical degree and/or master’s degree in Public Health.
  •  Demonstrated experience working in clinical and/or research settings.
  •  Experience implementing maternal and child health programs and training technical staff a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as to work effectively in a team, with the ability to build strong working relationships in the field including key stakeholders and implementing partners.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary

Please note: this consultant position is not subject to annual salary, as it is a not staff hire, but limited to a flat, per day, rate.
