Director - Business Development and Strategy

The Socioeconomic & Environmental Development Corporation, Sidra L.L.C is a Dubai based Organization founded in 2005 for the development of value enhancing partnerships in the private arena by bringing niche expertise onto a common socio-economic and environmental platform in order to engage in all aspects related to large scale projects in various sectors spanning from financial services, infrastructure development, agriculture, household solutions, and wellness.

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Group CEO, this position’s main focus is directing all activities towards the execution of the Group Strategic Vision through the development and implementation of a corporate strategic plan which would constitute a roadmap towards achieving the Group’s strategic development goals and reflect its mission and values.

In this critical role, the job holder is required to enable and support the Core Business Unit (CBU), Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and Shared Services Business Units (SSBUs) in the development of their respective strategic plans with a focus on capturing growth opportunities.

The Director - Business Development and Strategy is required to constantly assess new opportunities to determine their overall viability and contribute to the growth of the Group via the development and launch of new products, services, value chains and planning the implementation of business plans and the penetration of new markets where growth opportunities are maximized.

In this role, the job holder is accountable for reporting on market developments and competition activities to the Group leadership and senior colleagues. Managing and evaluating the Group’s structure and processes to ensure optimum utilization of resources thereby ensuring consistent growth and profitability in accordance with the financial targets defined by the Budget and Group Strategy.

The job holder is accountable for building and developing a capable, motivated and results-focused team to drive the achievement of strategic goals and compliance within the area of responsibility (AOR) in line with the required group standards and processes whilst ensuring improvement targets and quality standards are achieved.

Further, the role allows considerable scope for professional growth subject to individual performance.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Strategic Planning and Implementation


In close cooperation with the Core Business Unit (CBU), Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and Shared Services Business Units (SSBUs) to develop the strategy plan and derived strategy execution tools (strategy maps and metrics) and to implement and execute it in alignment with the Group’s vision.

Responsible for the overall management of all strategic and operational marketing and customer relationship activities.

2. Business Development

To drive business development and expansion in terms of product scope and markets in accordance with the strategy plan and budget objectives. Ensure compliance of Group functions with agreed alignment plans whilst maintaining regular communication at various levels and developing high-level relationships with customers.

3. Building and Leading Teams

Develop a capable, motivated and results-focused management team as the team leader of senior managers. Drive the achievement of desired performance across the Group by providing management oversight and guidance. Influence and drive cooperation and synergies across BUs and ensure exchange of best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree from a reputable university (Engineering, business, Finance, Economics). Post-graduate degree preferred.

A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in financial services and investment banking (capital structuring, business analysis, debt syndication) associated with various industries in terms of placement of equities in primary markets. Experience in private equity is preferred and past exposure to the investment management cycle and business exit strategies preferably in seeding companies.

Minimum of 7 years of experience in one of the top ten Management Consulting firms (non-audit preferred).

Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in a strategic business development and implementation role.
