To support its growing investment activities, IFC’s Financial Markets Department (CF3) invites applicants to apply for an Investment Analyst position in its MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region to be based in Karachi, Pakistan. 

The IA is responsible for the ongoing supervision of committed investments (the number depends on size and complexity) and maintenance at operational level IFC's relationships with these clients. The IA also participates in project appraisals. The position will report to the Manager for Financial Markets Portfolio for MENA.
Duties and Accountabilities:
Portfolio of Projects under IFC’s Supervision:

- Monitoring operational and financial performance of portfolio clients, through client visits and analysis of reports submitted;

- Keeping abreast of industry and country developments for the projects under supervision and identifying and analyzing fundamental competitive strengths and weaknesses of these projects in order to anticipate near- and long-term performance and raise issues as appropriate;

- In case of equity investments, preparing periodic valuations of equities and put/call options, and providing rationales for valuation methodologies used;

- Executing purchase or sale of equities by IFC, in conjunction with the Equity Desk; Accounting Department and other relevant groups;

- Monitoring client compliance as per their legal agreement with IFC and proposing courses of action in the event of non-compliance;

- Monitoring development impact of projects under supervision;

- Preparing disbursement requests for submission to the credit officer and director;

- Analyzing requests received from clients for waivers and amendments, and defending such case to the portfolio manager, credit officer and lawyer; preparing internal documentation related to waivers and amendments;

- Preparing various supervision reports and quarterly credit risk ratings and other management reports, making well-substantiated loss reserve recommendations;

- Drawing conclusions from financial analyses to design/ recommend suitable financial structures in the restructuring of problem projects, when needed;

- Participating as a member of a team in negotiations with clients and other banks for financial rescheduling, restructurings and investment covenant changes.

New Business Processing:

- Participation in project appraisals and preparing documentation at all stages (from origination to commitment/ disbursement) of the investment process as a member of a team, creating financial models, financial analysis; reports for Internal Review Meetings; board papers, and finalizing legal agreements.

- Excellent financial analytic capabilities;

- Ability to discern critical issues, prepare concise, insightful analyses, and propose solutions to problems;

- Persistence and tact in dealing with clients;

- Ability to work on a large number of portfolio clients and investments concurrently

- Experience working with banks and FIs;

- Strong sense of service to clients, openness to feedback and to new ideas.

Qualifications:

- A bachelor degree or equivalent professional qualification/ experience.

- Strong analytical, conceptual skills encompassing finance and the allied areas of financial investment, portfolio management, corporate finance, and economics.

- Expertise in project analysis.

- Sound knowledge of accounting and financial statement analysis.

- Excellent report writing skills.

- Excellent command of English language.
