Organizational Setting

The Division of General Services is one of the six Divisions in the Department of Management. The Division of General Services provides service functions through the Director's Office and five Sections: Facilities Management, Seibersdorf Facilities Management, Archives and Records Management, Transport and General Support, and Commissary Management.

The Seibersdorf Facilities Management Section (SFMS) supports the IAEA's Laboratories at Seibersdorf in all technical matters related to operation of the site and implementation of the IAEA's programmes and projects. SFMS also provides safety, security, administration, logistic, communication and transport services for the Laboratories. The Section consists of several units or groups covering maintenance, procurement, information and communication technology, dangerous materials handling and accounting, training support and catering services.

The IAEA's Laboratories are located in Seibersdorf, approximately 45 km south of Vienna.

Main Purpose

Under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Electro-Technician, the Electrician ensures the proper functioning of all highly sophisticated electrical systems, such as those found in Clean Laboratories or in radiation controlled, bio-hazardous Laboratories. He/she will further be involved in preventive maintenance initiatives and the upgrading of all laboratory electrical standard installations.

Working Relationships

Given the omnipresence of electrical installations throughout the laboratories and their likelihood to fail at random, the Electrician has frequent contact with all site staff as well as some direct contact with the ARC (Austrian Research Center) especially with the emergency centre for the co-ordination of emergency alarm systems, and may supervise contractors during work execution. He/she also interacts with vendors and suppliers at the technical level within the framework of procurement of materials, supplies, and spare parts.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Maintain, repair and upgrade electrical equipment, under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Electro-Technician.
  • Check the operation and condition of equipment and systems for fault location, repairing various equipment and systems and a multitude of other high-precision electrical components.
  • Monitor and co-ordinate with contracting firms, ensuring work is carried out without or with minor interruptions.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance activities, including the upgrading of technical infrastructure, as required by the laboratory programmes.
  • Conduct in-house relevant workshops, maintain stocks, and complete documentation (in case of supervisor absence).
  • Assist others outside area of specialization, as needed.
  • Participate in the Laboratory maintenance on-call scheme.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical systems with a good technical understanding of modern techniques utilised.
  • Familiarity with scientific laboratory / industrial environment and associated sensitiveness desirable.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Ability to work fully independently in a technical capacity.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, which is the IAEA standard (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) desirable.

Education, Experience and Language Skills

  • Completed apprenticeship and vocational schooling as an electrician, electrical technologist, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant experience, with extensive experience in maintaining and repairing electrical systems.
  • Good understanding of the modern techniques utilized in all electrical systems including all safety aspects thereof.
  • English Language Test (Level 3) to IAEA standard.
  • Good command of written and spoken English. Fluency in German essential. Knowledge of other IAEA languages (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) an advantage.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at €34 469 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), six weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
